As Captain Cook traveled north along the east coast in 1770, he made notes in his Captains Diary about a headland, now called Nobby Head. However it wasn't until 1797, while chasing escapees, that Lieutenant John Shortland discovered the Hunter River and also large deposits of coal.

Some four years later, in 1801 convicts began the backbreaking work of mining coal and cutting timber. Slowly, on the back of coal and the construction of the major prison in NSW (with over 1000 convicts) Newcastle begin growing, along with the schools and a flurry of buildings, its population grow to approx 50,000 in 1890.

A major turning point in the town's history come in 1911, when the large steelworks, BHP, chose Newcastle as the its new location due to the abundance of coal. BHP would remain in Newcastle until the company decided to close its doors in 2000, despite record company profits.

Today Newcastle is the second largest city in NSW (250,000 pop) and is growing in popularity with many Australians and foreign tourists. Located around 150km north of Sydney, Newcastle is easily reached by road or rail in only a few hours. There are also regular flights to and from Williamstown, just to the north.

Once here, the wide and diverse choice of activities on offer will have you wondering in amazement. Located on the coast, some of Australia's best beaches can be found only minutes from the CBD. Nobby's and Newcastle Main Beach, famous for hosting the International Surfest Contest, are only a 5-minute stroll from the main shopping and business districts. Continuing south, through the hilly, yet stunning gardens of King Edward Park, you will travel down the long windy slope arriving at Bar Beach. Further south the white sandy beaches of Merewether, Dudley, Redhead and Blacks Beach will greet you. All perfect for working on the tan, catching some waves or cooling of on a hot summers day.

For the non-beach goers, Newcastle Harbor and foreshore offers a variety of restaurants, cafes and park area to sip on a latte, try a Newcastle Ale or just chill out on the grass. For the more energetic, the large look out tower located next to the Brewery gives you a wonderful 360' view of the city and it's vast coastline. Walking over the footbridge, located below the look out, you enter the Hunter Street Mall, full of more shops and cafés.

For the day-trippers, a visit to the famous Hunter Valley Wineries is a great way to check out the internationally renowned wines of the region. Tours can be private or in groups, by old vintage cars or by bus. Whichever way you go, it is recommended that you don't drive, allowing you to fully appreciate the character and flavor of Australia's leading wine makers!

If history is your thing, Newcastle won't disappoint! Downtown in the CBD you'll find the Newcastle Art Gallery, City Museum and Botanical Gardens, along with Fort Scratchley and the Maritime Museum. A little out of the city, is the Wetlands Center and Blackbutt Nature Reserve, both great for short walks, picnics and learning about Australia's natural beauty.

Find What You're Looking For in St. Kitts and Nevis Monday, December 13, 2010

Thanks to long ago volcanic activity, the Caribbean Sea is sprinkled with handfuls of now-settled islands that act as magnets to tourists looking for the ultimate getaway experience. There are many choices, few of them regrettable, but if a quiet and nature-oriented escape from reality is desired, you certainly wouldn't go wrong with a trip to St. Kitts and Nevis, a pair of islands that maintains a French/English identity as well as many unspoiled swaths of wilderness.

British-style buildings and cars that drive on the left side of the road will immediately help to create a sense of away-ness, and the interior of the islands are delightfully uninhabited - an exotic treat for city dwellers and residents of sprawling suburbia. Combine these elements with a predictably pleasant climate and constant cycle of sea breezes and the foundation has been laid for a top-five vacation.

Some say that St. Kitts and Nevis resemble a baseball bat and baseball, something to notice when flying in for a landing or looking at a map but a fact that will be forgotten once you've become immersed in the pure loveliness of the landscape. A narrow channel separates the two isles, making going back and forth no big deal, so every inch of the terrain, both untouched and populated, is available to be explored and enjoyed.

All the standard beach activities are up for grabs, although the word "standard" doesn't really apply to snorkeling, sea kayaking, relaxing at a beach bar or watching for rainbows and sunsets off the pristine coast. Timothy Beach is a popular spot for finding the activities you need to check a few entries off the itinerary, and if you don't have one of those, you'll wander your way through a perfectly agreeable day. After getting your fill of being barefoot, it'll be time to head to one of the towns for some shopping and fine dining. Try Basseterre, Charlestown or Newcastle for a taste of local cuisine, shopping and culture seeking.

Or, if seeking out a few thrills is on the menu, head inland to sneak a peek at the impressive array of flora and fauna. In addition to colorful and fragrant plant life unlike any you've seen before, the flitting hummingbirds and friendly monkeys will most certainly catch your eye. A few tidbits of fruit will entice the furry creatures to come close, offering up photo-ops that will make the perfect souvenir. Mountain rainforest hikes provide exercise, fresh air and enjoyable off-the-beaten-path moments, so check them out if you're so inclined.

St. Kitts and Nevis is adept at offering a bit of everything; quiet afternoons and thrilling adventures, deserted stretches of beach and lively festivals. A number of music celebrations dot the calendar and often feature parades with salsa, calypso and steel pan infusions, while tennis courts and golf courses provide more traditional vacation pursuits. No matter what you and your companions look for on holiday (as the Brits would say) it's certain to be contained within the perimeter of this charming island nation.

This includes stellar lodging options in the form of dozens of vacation rental properties that have a way of making visitors feel immediately at home in this far-flung tropical paradise. Villas offering panoramic views and easy access to the beach make all the difference when it comes to you and your companions coexisting peacefully while feeling comfortable and connected to the surroundings. A day of swimming and snorkeling can be just a stroll away, as are horseback riding stables, one of the vibrant towns, a fabulous restaurant or an engrossing view of Mt. Nevis. Sorting through the options online is a fun exercise that will certainly lead to inventing the perfect scenario framed by hibiscus and bougainvillea, not to mention a set-up of bedrooms, baths and grounds that will lend an air of elegance and luxury to the whole affair.

St. Kitts and Nevis Vacation Rentals are available in multiple locations and come in all shape and size - large condos, diminutive bungalows, vast villas, etc... Most come equipped with a plethora of helpful amenities like kitchens and extra towels and linens, and most are pretty easy on the eyes. Take a look at the options and allow yourself to start getting excited for an upcoming trip that's sure to be one of your best ever.

Flights to Delhi and the Indira Gandhi International Airport Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Arguably the number one destination for flights to India from the UK is Delhi. Flights are now readily available from most UK international airports including:

  • Birmingham

  • Bristol

  • Glasgow

  • Leeds

  • Bradford

  • London Gatwick

  • London Heathrow

  • Manchester

  • Newcastle

Direct flights to Delhi from the UK should take between 8.5 hrs to 9.5 hours depending on your actual airport of departure, plus wind and weather conditions. Many flights offered online will not fly directly to Delhi but will involve at least one stop en-route, usually in the host country of the airline. The duration of these non-direct flights will of course be determined by the number and length of stops. Be sure to check the flight itinerary when booking your flight. Non-direct flights will often, but not always, be cheaper.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport - All UK to Delhi flights, will arrive at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), terminal 2. Renovation of the international terminal of Delhi Airport, is finally complete although many further improvements are planned. The airport has been notorious for the huge congestion, chaos, noise, slow progress and long queues. The private airport operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) claims that these issues are now a thing of the past. That however remains to be seen. I have heard that the number of immigration counters has now been increased but is still a bottleneck. More immigration officials have been employed in an effort to improve the problem. Likewise the number of departure check-in counters has gone up, but be sure to arrive in plenty of time. It is still unlikely that you will enjoy a quick passage through the airport whether arriving or departing. In the Arrival Visitors Area of the International Terminal you will find banks, bureaux de change and ATMs.

ATMs are also available within the domestic terminal if you are transferring to an internal flight. The Domestic Airport comprises of Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B and the domestic arrival terminal. Domestic flights of the Indian National Airlines and Alliance Air operate from Terminal 1A. Jet Airways, Air Sahara, executive aircraft and private aviation companies operate out of terminal 1B. You will find the Domestic Terminal is just 5km (3 miles) away from the International Terminal 2. A free bus service connecting the two operates every 30 minutes.

The city centre is 16 km (10 miles) from the airport. Airport buses leave for central Delhi, operating 24 hours a day and with a transfer time of approximately 45 minutes. Metered taxis can be found outside the airport, but in order to eliminate any uncertainty over fares, it could be considered preferable to use pre-paid taxis available via the taxi counter in arrivals. The journey time by taxi to the city centre is around 30 minutes.

Delhi is often seen as the gateway into India, but is worth considering as a destination for your holiday. There is much to do in and around the city and the surrounding areas. Places of interest abound, museums, ancient monuments and bazaars then in contrast, 21st century glass and steel shopping malls.

Brett has worked throughout the UK and overseas for the past 40 years. Having now semi-retired, he spends much of his time travelling and indulging his passion for writing.

Soccer Superstitions! Sunday, November 28, 2010

These professionals worked hard at their game, trained to perfection and when all the work was done, they left the rest to superstition to get the job done! Some players and coaches followed the most bizarre pre-match rituals on and off the pitch and swore by their efficacy. Idiosyncrasies that worked for them once and became rituals, to be followed without question or logic. Here are some superstitions our soccer greats took recourse to in the hope that lady luck would smile their way...

Les Bleus were superstitious about goalkeeper Fabien Barthez's bald pate! During the 1998 World Cup, captain Laurent Blanc kissed the keeper on the head and France went on the win! And with that a ritual was born, with Barthez offering up his head for the habitual kiss before each match, often to the tune of Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive', which was blasted in the locker room to get them into winning mode! And then, there's coach Raymond Domenech's controversial reliance on astrology. He is said to have chosen players and put his team together based on their sun signs! This won Domenech his fair share of criticism from the players' who'd been left out simply because they were born on the 'wrong' date or time of the month!

A rather common practice among soccer players is to wear the same underwear for games! Colombian Rene Higuita admits that his underwear had to be blue during match days. It all started in the 80s, when his team couldn't beat their rival team, no matter what they did. So, a fortune teller was consulted, who announced a curse had been placed on them and could be remedied if all players wore blue underpants while playing! They did and it worked, winning them the Copa Libertadores! Since then, blue undergarments became a must for Higuita!

Brazilian player and coach Mario Zagallo is known for his unshakable faith in the number 13. Since Saint Anthony's Day is celebrated on the 13th of June, all things 13 were preferred by Zagallo. He married on his patron saint's day, lived on the 13th floor, saw Brazil through 13 World Cup victories and aided his post-op recovery from stomach cancer by visiting the saint's shrine all of 13 times! Personal preferences are one thing, but on-pitch peculiarities sometimes bordered on vulgarity! Argentinean goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea is a case in point. While defending penalty shots, he was known to urinate on the pitch! Now that could easily qualify as a 'pe(t)e peeve'!

Moving on to England's squad, striker Gary Lineker refused to shoot at the goal while warming up. He was convinced that he was saving up goals for the match! And if he failed to score in the first half of the game, he would promptly trot to the dressing room at halftime and wear a fresh soccer shirt. If goals evaded him for a lengthy period of time, it meant a trip to the hairdresser! Another legend, Paul Ince, always made sure he was the last player to leave the dressing room and only wore his soccer shirt while running onto the pitch!

These are some superstitions and there are plenty more... Some extremely funny, others seriously unbelievable!

Hawkesbury Race Track - History and Racing Tips Article Friday, November 19, 2010

The Hawkesbury Racecourse is located opposite to the Richmond Air Force Base, 65 kilometers west of the Sydney Central Business District, just between Richmond and Windsor. The racecourse dates to 1865, when it was built from just a 200-acre bush land. Now, it's one of the most popular racecourses in New South Wales, having a total circumference measurement of 2070 meters and a straight measurement of 380 meters. It features a slight rise from the home turn to the winning post and goes clockwise just like the Newcastle Race Track.

The first race meet ever held in the Hawkesbury Race Track was in 1871. The governing body that manages all the race meetings held at this racecourse is the Hawkesbury Race Club. It's been managing the operations of the said racecourse for around 135 years now, and so far; the club has done a very good job in creating an amazing racetrack that attracts a lot of people especially during the big races.

In the Hawkesbury Racecourse, you will find a wide selection of facilities that cater to conferences, meetings and other special events that will be held here. Along with this comes a 4-star motel that houses a total of 30 luxurious rooms, 2 deluxe suites, 2 spa suites, an in-ground pool and guest parking facilities. It also offers disabled accommodations.

The racecourse itself has a length of 2067.5 meters and width of 20 meters. It has a kikuyu grass surface, a sandy loam base and a subsoil drainage, perfect for the rainy days. It can also be noticed that this track has rounded bends along its entire rail.

Every month of the year, 2 race meetings are being held at the racecourse, usually on a Thursday. One of the biggest races the Hawkesbury Race Track holds each year is the Hawkesbury Gold Cup Ladies Day. In addition to the races featured in the said day, Myer Fashions is also held on the Field. The races consist of the Group 3 Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup and the Listed Yalumba Wines Cup. These races are held on a Thursday every November of the year.

The Hawkesbury Gold Cup is an Open Handicap race hosted on the same day as the Group 1 Crown Oaks. A lot of local handy horses from Sydney and around the club participate in the said event. Other races hosted here are the Wine, Food & Jazz Race Day every October and the Christmas in July Race Day.

Don't Let Your Timeshare Be Foreclosed On - Get Rid of it Instead Thursday, November 18, 2010

It should come as no surprise that when you try to have your timeshare foreclosed on, you're going to encounter resistance and burdens from the timeshare industry. Let me explain. There are lots of owners out there looking for a way to get rid of their timeshare. They've probably come to learn that they aren't going to upsell their timeshare. The salesman, to put it bluntly, was wrong. Their next line of reasoning is to sell it as a loss. After finding it nearly impossible to sell a timeshare even at a loss, the distressed owner starts getting desperate.

Here's where you should watch out. The desperate owners thinks "Well, I'll just stop paying my annual fees. Then they'll foreclose on the thing and I'll be done with it. No fuss, no muss." Wrong. Lots of fuss, and a whole lot of muss.

To put it bluntly, did you really think the timeshare industry hasn't already figured out this potential loophole? These people rake in hundreds of millions of dollars a year, sometimes billions. They didn't get there by being outsmarted on a technicality.

So here's what happens: when they see you beginning to default on your property, they call in the debt collectors. That's right. Those people who love to call you at 6:30 am and wish you a good morning. Not to mention they're probably going to be collecting on additional fees you racked up during the foreclosure.

The foreclosure, you say? Well, at least this part of your plan worked like a charm. The timeshare company will indeed take your timeshare and foreclose on it. But just like all things in this world, we wear the chains we've forged in life. And there are no more persistent chains than those shackled on by the timeshare industry. Do yourself a favor and PAY someone to take it if you've reached this point. It's better than exposing yourself to vultures.

Who Should I Get to Teach Me to Drive? Saturday, November 6, 2010

Are you ready to get behind the wheel of a car? If so, you need to decide how you are going to learn. The most popular options are being taught by a relative or by a qualified instructor.

With that in mind, here are the benefits of each method...

LEARNING FROM A RELATIVE

1. If you're taught by a parent, they will more than likely have many years of experience of driving.
2. Parents can pass on sage advice and gain extra reassurance from knowing you have learnt how to drive safely.
3. On a week-to-week basis, it will be cheaper because they are unlikely to charge you for a lesson.
4. You may be able to learn in the car you will drive after you've passed your test, making the transition into driving by yourself a bit easier.
5. You can have lessons more often, because you are not restricted by costs, meaning you may see quicker progress

LEARNING FROM AN INSTRUCTOR

1. You will be taught by someone who knows the laws of the road inside out, meaning you will be safer on the roads.
2. You don't have to worry about falling out with a loved one. Many relationships don't cope well with the teacher-student arrangement.
3. Instructors have a better insight into examiners and what it takes to pass, so they can teach you how to pass as well as how to be ready for the roads.
4. Your instructor will only put you forward for your test when they think you are ready, meaning there's less likelihood of wasting money on failed tests.
5. Many instructors offer intensive courses to help get you ready for your test even quicker. While expensive, they cover everything you're likely to be faced with on a test.

If you do decide to learn from a professional, maybe you'll need to search for Newcastle driving schools. Why not begin your search by using a Newcastle directory?

LocalMole.co.uk is a local business directory that can help you find everything from Newcastle electricians to hairdressers in Newcastle.

Manchester City is Now the Richest Football Club in the World Friday, November 5, 2010

In the '80s and '90s, Manchester City Football Club was not one of the Premier League's top teams. Their 1976 League Cup victory stands as one of the most recent expressions of their competitive potential. However, business transactions behind-the-scenes often dictate much of what transpires on the field. Manchester City was not blessed with the necessary capital to spend on the best players in the past.

In September 2008, these fortunes have significantly changed; Abu Dhabi United Group purchased the team in a late Sunday evening deal. Now owned by this private equity firm from United Arab Emirates, Manchester City has emerged as the richest football club in the world. With this new financial backing, the team sought great players, with impressive bids submitted to secure top talent. Expensive transfers brought players like Gareth Barry, Robinho, and Carlos Tevez to the club.

The excitement of a winning sports club will no doubt prove very fiscally rewarding for Manchester in coming years. Manchester hotels will burst with tourists and sports fans who want to see this team in action. Pubs and restaurants near the City of Manchester Stadium will boom. The value of property in the area will also rise due to the the additional potential for commerce. Healthy tourism is great for the long term viability of a city.

While Manchester already has a known reputation as a great city to start a business, this new-found tourist attraction will encourage accelerated growth. Tourism revenue often represents the flow of new money into a city. This steady flow of money will fill the coffers of the pubs and hotels Manchester City fans frequent.

For those who are interested in experiencing the wealthiest football club in the world, now is the best time to plan a trip to Manchester. While this trend is still new, it will remain affordable to stay in Manchester hotels near the stadium. More tourism will mean fewer vacancies. As time passes, it will become more difficult to book the hotels Manchester hosts.

Manchester residents will all benefit from the football excitement. Nothing better promotes economic growth in a city than a winning football club. Wealthy owners will be able to bring in the quality players that this team needs in order to remain a winning dynasty. Manchester City's new position as the richest football club in the world will be great for the city's future.

John Hawkes, Premier Trainer Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Some names are just so familiar to our country's punters, they really don't need an introduction. One of those names is premier Australian horse trainer John Hawkes.

John Hawkes began his training career during the 1971-1972 racing season in Adelaide. But his story really begins when he began working for the Ingham family in 1992. He moved to Melbourne from Sydney when offered the top job by the 'chicken kings' Jack and Bob Ingham. Hawkes was in charge of stables in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The Hawkes and Inghams' partnership became a long and successful association that did not end until 2007 when he chose to begin his own training operation.

The working relationship between John Hawkes and the Inghams has already gone down as the most successful owner-trainer force in Australian racing history.

Glory By the Numbers

When you look at the statistics which back up the success of John Hawkes as a thoroughbred race horse trainer, you can easily understand why he is so admired and honoured. The numbers are impressive and reflect a long career marked by one success after another. He can currently claim 96 Group I wins with his most recent being a win by Mentality at the George Main Stakes.

The success of John Hawkes as a trainer is undisputed. He has earned over $120 million in prize money, had over 540 stakes wins, and set a single season win record of 334 victories in 2001-2002. He has also won 3 of the 4 major Australian races which include 2 Golden Slippers, 1 Cox Plate and 1 Caulfield Cup. He has earned 10 Australian and 9 Sydney training premierships on top of it all.

In recognition of Mr. Hawkes stunning training records, he was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame in 2004.

Octagonal and Lonhro

While John Hawkes probably has many years of success ahead, it will be exceptionally difficult for him to find another champion quite as good as Octagonal or Lonhro.

Octagonal won the 1995 Cox Plate race and was crowned the Australian Champion 2 year-old that same year. Octagonal then won the 1996 AJC Australian Derby, the 1997 Australian Cup, and the 1996 and 1997 BMW. 'The Big O' won 13 of 27 starts during a great career that made him famous for his never say die attitude and the ability to almost invariably win a photo-finish.

Lonhro, sired by Octagonal, won the 2004 Australian Cup and was known for explosive running power. The horse won 24 of 32 starts. Lonhro, like Octagonal, was named an Australian Horse of the Year. Octagonal won 10 Group 1 races and Lonhro went one better with 11 Group 1's.

John Hawkes' first Caulfield Cup win did not come easy, in fact he was 36 years into his training career before Railings beat the Japanese horse Eye Popper by half a head in the 2005 Caulfield Cup.

A Family Partnership

After almost 15 years with the Inghams, John Hawkes stunned the racing world by announcing he was starting his own family-owned training operation. In November 2007, he began training horses with his two sons Wayne and Michael.

Mentality's win in the George Main Stakes at Randwick in 2008 was the first Group 1 winner for the new family partnership.

The Australian racing books are forever etched with the name of premier trainer John Hawkes and the deeds of his two champions Octagonal and Lonhro.

The FIFA World Cup 2010 Football Tournament (Soccer World Cup to South Africans) is a mere 20 months away and South Africa is truly abuzz with preparations. There is an enormous amount of pressure on South Africa to execute a successful and memorable tournament and work has begun in full force to ensure that the tournament is fault-free.

Construction and Scaffolding is Key
The construction sector is booming and reaping the benefits of these preparations as stadiums are built along with new roads and freeways. Buildings, suburbs and districts are being renovated to create an attractive, first-world image of South Africa to visiting foreigners and television audiences from around the world.

Scaffolding is imperative to the preparatory processes as scaffolding is required for not only various formwork and construction projects, but also to provide safe and easy access for renovations and restorations.

Roads
The influx of people into South Africa for the World Cup, and especially into the main cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, requires that many infrastructure upgrades be made in these cities. The Department of Transport has been given a budget of R92-billion to bring the standard of the roads up to a level where they can cope with the enormous influx of traffic.

In Cape Town, the freeway system has always been relatively small and unable to cope with the volume of everyday traffic in and out of town. Roads are being widened to cope with the increased traffic that 2010 will bring. Many other cities are expanding their road infrastructure and repairing problems such as potholes. Scaffolding is used to build these new roads and complete the necessary formwork for the new infrastructure.

Buildings and Structures
In 2010 host cities, hotels are being built, old buildings are being restored to their former attractiveness and 'bad' areas are being cleaned up. The older buildings that are being restored are a mixture of high-rise blocks and smaller structures and scaffolding is needed to complete all of these adjustments and new structures.

Scaffolding is needed in the restoration process to allow workers access to high and difficult places to reach, whilst maintaining the safety of the workmen and bystanders.

Airports
One of the major construction projects taking place to accommodate the World Cup in 2010 is the expansion of South Africa's main airports. Over R5.2-billion has been invested in developing South Africa's airports to world-class standards. Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg have seen the majority of expansions, especially Johannesburg's OR Tambo Airport which has benefitted from a R1.6-billion investment to develop the central terminal.

The terminal is linked to the Gautrain, a high speed train which will travel from OR Tambo Airport to Johannesburg.

Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg airports have had their existing parking facilities upgraded to large, multi-story parkades to allow sufficient parking for the influx of visitors. R132-million has been budgeted for refurbishments at national airports which will provide temporary facilities during the tournament.

Stadiums
There are five stadiums which are being constructed from new, adding to the stadiums already existing in South Africa. Green Point Stadium in the Western Cape (the previous Green Point Stadium was demolished in 2007), the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex, the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth and the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban are under construction currently to be finished for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The FNB Stadium, Ellis Park in Johannesburg and Loftus Versfeld in Tshwane, along with the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in North West and Vodacom Park in Mangaung (Bloemfontein) are in the process of being upgraded to increase capacity and improve facilities.

These stadiums require enormous engineering feats and advanced use of scaffolding and formwork to ensure that the structures are completed on time and in good quality to achieve the maximum success for South Africa in hosting the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup is the most watched sporting event in the world. All eyes will be on South Africa to perform not only on the field, but also as a host country. With current construction underway, scaffolding is helping engineers and contractors to achieve top results in less time, with less man power but with the maximum safety available.

Race Horse Betting Online - Is it Worth It? Wednesday, October 27, 2010

With growing Internet access for everyone, betting online is becoming increasingly more popular. It is predicted that even more people will start to make their sole income from this medium in the very near future. Will you be one of them? The sheer convenience has caused this betting explosion and the amounts placed in the horse racing arena are growing on a daily basis.

The days of standing in line, on course or off to place a bet are history. Today's savvy punter does this from the comfort of his armchair.

So why is horse race betting via the Internet so worthwhile?

Well, it has many advantages over traditional methods. One advantage most often heralded by punters is that by placing a bet online you instantly get to see your return should your selection be successful. No more waiting for a settler to work it out on a calculator. No more arguments at your local bookmakers when you have calculated a different payout mentally. Remember... they are always right aren't they?

So punters feel more comfortable when they can instantly see how much they can win and their bets are settled at the speed of light... well almost. But far and above the most important factor is convenience. It has never been easier. When you head off to your local bookmakers, you have to stare at form on the daily's placed on the wall, take note of all your selections carefully, write out a betting slip and then hand it over to the teller. How archaic! On the internet, this and more is all achieved at the push of a button, the click of a mouse.

No more lost betting slips either and if you think how stupid... well trust me, one day when that 4 horse accumulator romps in and you go to your pocket to get the slip, where you just know you placed it... well you get the picture. This can't happen online!

How Readily Available is Race Horse Betting on the Internet?

Just do an online search for 'bookmakers' and you will have your answer. Internet gambling on horse racing is here to stay and can only grow in size and popularity.

Most online bookmakers are offering horse racing as a betting medium and whilst some will specialise in other areas, they will not miss the potential income stream from the horse racing fraternity. Another great advantage is that there a plethora of online deals to be had that just aren't available in the shops. Free bets abound and if you use them wisely there is good money to be made for free. Every day I come across special incentives that bookmakers are offering to place bets online and there are even websites dedicated to finding these offers and displaying them for the world to see.

This is big business and new ways to encourage you to give them your business are emerging every day. Anything that gives you more bang for your buck is a welcome as far as I can see. But as always, a note of caution. We have all heard the horror stories of being ripped off over the internet. I can see no reason why this should be any different for bookmakers than when shopping for a new watch. Apply the same stringent rules you would for any online activity and you should be okay. Never join a site that does not have clear policies and privacy rules.

Start with the well known and respected bookmakers and then take your time adding ones you have fully checked out to your portfolio. Don't just dive in on the whim of a special offer.

Connections gay nightclub show in Northbridge WA early 1990's. This is a AIDS Council of WA health promotion campaign, featuring John Pujol - if anyone recognises the other guy, please let me know - cheers. Northbridge is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, best known for its nightlife. The official suburb and its name date from 1982,[2] prior to which the area was part of the Perth Central Business District (CBD), and was known by informal names such as "North of the Bridge" and "North of the Line". Northbridge was officially declared a suburb and named in 1982.[2] Before then, the area was part of the Perth Central Business District (CBD), and known by informal names like "North of the Bridge" and "North of the Line". Located immediately north of the CBD, Northbridge is officially bounded by William St, Roe Street, Newcastle Street and the Mitchell Freeway. The name Northbridge is often misapplied to areas and landmarks which are east of William Street and/or north of Newcastle St — such as the Perth Cultural Centre — which are technically still part of the CBD. The area is largely a mix of commercial, public and residential properties. Northbridge has a wide variety of cuisine, including many Chinese restaurants, concentrated in Perth's official Chinatown, on Roe Street. It also has many other Asian, Italian and specialised seafood outlets. Weight Training Soccer - How To Maximize Performance Friday, October 8, 2010

Weight training soccer is something that no soccer player can afford to ignore and avoid. It is very important. If the players have this training right, they simply maximize their chances to get a place in their favorite team.

On the other hand, if they lack such training, they simply carry the risk to end up at the back of the field. Weight training can help the players optimize their overall soccer skills and performance.

  • Endurance
  • Endurance is the ability of the player that allows them to remain active during the complete 90 minutes of the game - both in attack and defense - but without showing tiredness or impaired ball control.

The player has to constantly run throughout the game to demand the ball from other fellow players, to steal the ball from the opponent players, or to dribble the ball himself to the goal line so that he could go for shooting and score a goal.

Therefore, it is important for the coach running the weight training session that he design the training in a way that could help the players effectively work and improve their endurance.

  • Speed
  • Speed is another physical element that can be substantially enhanced with the correct weight training. The players must be efficient enough to accelerate their speed on the ground depending upon the circumstances, such as to steal to ball or to save the ball from stealing.

What is more, it is not all about the accelerating ability, the players are supposed to maintain this acceleration at the situation demands. For example, if you are playing as forward, you are supposed to accelerate with variation in speed over 3 to 20 yards.

The weight training must work on some of the associated basics, such as right straight ahead running speed, changing direction with speed, variation in speed etc. the coaches have to make sure that the training session designed by them will help the players attain these basics.

  • Instant Variation In Direction
  • Depending upon the position, the players may have to change directions instantly. It demands for their agility. There can be many such instances when you need to be agile enough to get the control of the ball effectively - whether it is an awkwardly bouncing ball or getting up quickly after a tackle.

Therefore, in order to enhance the agility of the players, the coaches must include various flexibility exercises in the weight training soccer session.

Watch Soccer Online Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Want to watch soccer online? Euro 2008 has brought new opportunities for creative minds in the domain of online soccer watching. There are nowadays many opportunities for watching football videos via the streaming system. They are free and classified according to the topic. There are sections with advertisements for players, reports, extracts from football matches in streaming. Soccer videos online feature football players like Ronaldo, Zidane, Henry or any other football player you admire. You can also see excerpts and summaries of the biggest football matches and to search for videos of football streaming through internal search engines.

Euro 2008 will materialize convergence of traffic and data, voice and video, into a single network. This will lead to a complexity of IP networks and a performance problem for many businesses that can not control wild downloads of video ... The networks must be secure and optimized to ensure the availability of resources.

Should this warning be taken seriously? Definitely not! IT systems have evolved since users have 4, 8 or even 16 Mb / s or more bandwidth Internet, available only for them alone at home. It is more desirable to surf comfortably at home and even watch TV on your PC, rather than at the office. The internet in an office is rather reserved for ad hoc research (routes, timetables, online banks) multiple but short lasting searches. The real soccer addicts have already planned mini-TV, portable tuners TNT on laptops, even broadcasts on the 3G mobile. Others prefer the comfort of a large screen at coffee shops or at home.

Learn the Brief History of Table Football Sunday, October 3, 2010

Table Football is a game that dates back to the late 19th century although the game that we may recognise would probably date to the early 1920's. This is a game that is known by several names including "Footsy" and "Baby-foot" among many others. Frequently played in clubs, bars, pubs and even many schools, smaller "table top" versions of the game can be bought for players at home. The International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) promotes table football across the world, and whilst it does not organise any tournaments itself, it does ensure that the soccer tables used in international competitions, meet recognised requirements.

Asides from the table top games the variation in the types and styles of table football, is pretty broad. Little "micro" tables are available that are only 80 centimetres in length but still as sturdy and as well built as the full size games. At the other extreme, a table football game was made in Berlin for eleven players per team that was seven metres in length. The average game table is more likely to be between 4 and 5 feet in length. The balls used in the game which may be made from a variety of materials including wood, cork, marble and metal, affects the speed and control of the game. It is a fun game for everybody and those that have mastered skills in the past might find they still have them. For those who have never played before, it just takes practice to learn the best techniques. The combination of the ball texture and the "player" texture (good quality players would be made from aluminium), may ultimately affect the skill of the human player.

    Cullercoats Saturday, September 25, 2010

www.ceepackaging.com http www.youtube.com Cullercoats is located between Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. There is a semi-circular sandy beach with cliffs and caves, and the village is a popular destination for day-trippers. The name is thought to derive from Dove (or Culver) Cotes. Historically the village depended on fishing; there was also local coal mining in so-called bell pits. The coal was used to fire salt pans (now long gone) on the field now known as the boat field. As a port, Cullercoats was used to export both salt and coal. However, the salt industry declined and the growth of the railways led to coal shipments being relocated to better harbours. This left fishing as the main industry and two piers were built on either side of the harbour to provide shelter for the many open top fishing vessels, or cobles, launched from the harbour. The harbour is the home of the Dove Marine Laboratory, a research and teaching laboratory which forms part of the School of Marine Science and Technology within Newcastle University In 1848, a coble taking a pilot to a ship further out at sea capsized with the loss of all on board. In response to this disaster the local landowner, the Duke of Northumberland funded the setting up of an RNLI lifeboat station. The following year a second disaster, this time costing 20 lifeboat crew their lives, prompted the Duke to sponsor a competition to design a self-righting lifeboat. The resulting boat, the Percy was built at the Duke's expense and ...

Why Trying to Sell Timeshare Property is So Hard Thursday, September 23, 2010

The economy is taking its toll on everyone, especially those who are trying to sell timeshare vacation plans. From businesses to families to college students, the pain is widespread. Businesses are cutting back on their spending and families are making due with less, and college students are transferring to state schools to keep from going into crippling debt. And in the time share owners community this economic shift has left many owners searching for ways to sell timeshare contracts so that they can stop paying timeshare fees.

For timeshare owners, the situation is no different. Anyone who owns a timeshare will notice that their fees have gone up or that they have been charged a special assessment of some kind. For many of you, the answer is simple: sell my timeshare. But it is not so easy to sell timeshare properties and many time share owners can testify that it's a rather difficult process. Why?

Well, there are several methods, but the one that's going to be the most relevant has to do with the state of the economy. As already mentioned, the economy is making everything harder. Timeshares are thus becoming harder to own. And if they're harder to own, it's going to be even harder to sell your timeshare even if it's a redweek timeshare. I know that the salesman or saleswoman tried pitching the timeshare to you as an investment-but let's be real-time shares are not investments, you simply cannot sell timeshare property in the same way you would sell regular real estate.

Anyone who is trying to sell timeshare property is going to have an extremely difficult for the foreseeable future. More Americans are realizing that paying in advance for a vacation does not make sense. They further realize that paying for an asset that only drains their pocketbook does not make sense. For those of you looking to sell your timeshare, be mindful of the economy and the mindset and bank account of the average consumer. And if you find yourself among those who are burdened with a timeshare, you may need to find an option other than trying to sell timeshare weeks.

It is important to understand that it is an incredibly tough time share resales market. Many time share owners have experienced similar problems and were unable to sell their timeshare. They've been through the hassle of trying to list their time share on resale sites, but did not have any luck. They just could not sell timeshare property for anything.

One good timeshare exit solution is to use a timeshare transfer service to have your name removed from the timeshare contract. This is a much simpler and easier way to get out of a timeshare contract. The best part about using this exit method is that you will not have to go through the sell timeshare strategy and risk losing more time and money trying to get out.

Getting your name off of a timeshare contract can be difficult. Thankfully there are options other than trying to sell timeshare property. With the exit solution services of Timeshare Relief you can be timeshare free in no time. Tracie A. Newcastle is devoted to reporting about the timeshare industry. She has been able to help countless timeshare owners decide what to do with their timeshare properties and highly recommends the services of Timeshare Relief to anyone who wishes to exit their timeshare.

Quick Guide to Malaga Airport Monday, September 20, 2010

Arriving at a strange airport can often be a stressful experience - especially if it is during the hot and busy summer months and you are travelling with children, carrying a lot of luggage and arriving late at night.

I know Malaga Airport very well as I live on the Costa del Sol and travel to and from there several times a year. I have therefore written a fact sheet detailing all you need to know when you arrive at or depart from Malaga Airport.

    1. How to Get to Malaga Airport

When you are booking your flight to Malaga Airport there are over 9 airlines operating from 20 UK airports offering regular scheduled and charter flights.

If you are flying from the London or the South you can get flights from Bournemouth, Bristol, Southampton, Exeter, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted Airports.

Travellers from the North of England can fly into Malaga from Blackpool, Doncaster Sheffield, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle in the North and Midlands' travellers have the choice of Birmingham and East Midlands Airport.

Other UK airports include Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow International and Prestwick Airports in Scotland, Belfast International in Ireland and Cardiff in Wales.

    2. Landing at Malaga Airport

Once you have landed and disembarked from the aircraft you should head towards the baggage reclaim hall which is on the ground floor. Depending on your arrival gate this can be quite a walk, but there are travelators which will take you all the way there. If you do have mobility problems, make sure that you inform your airline of this when you make the reservation so that they can arrange for a buggy to be waiting when the aircraft docks. Look for the TV monitors at the entrance of the luggage which indicate which belt your luggage will appear on. You will find the public toilets situated to the right hand side in the corner of the arrivals hall.

    3. Hiring a Car at Malaga Airport

If you have hired a car which you need to pick up from Malaga Airport, if it is from a rent a car company who is located in the main airport terminal (Auriga Crown, Autos Lido, Avis, Europcar, Goldcar, Hertz, National Atesa, Record, Sixt and Solmar) then you will see a slope off to the right at the end of the arrivals hall which leads to their desks. If it is an offsite car hire company (AutoLink, Car Gest, Centauro, First Car Group, Global Car Hire, Holiday Car Hire, Marbesol, Malaga Car, National, Niza Cars, Pepecars, Tony's Rent a Car, Top Rent a Car and Yellow Car) then you need to go through into the public arrivals hall, out through the main door, turn right, walk a very short distance past the taxi rank and main bus stop outside to the car rental pick up point. The majority of the offsite car rental firms are located on a slip road running adjacent to the Avenida Garcia Morato which is the approach road into Malaga Airport just a few minutes away.

The route to the Costa del Sol is well signposted when you leave Malaga Airport. Drive out of the airport terminal and follow sign to Cadiz, N340-E15. There is a BP garage on your left and after 50 metres there is roundabout and the San Miguel Brewery. Take the second exit off and get into the right hand lane ready to take the slip road in 100m.  Direction Torremolinos & Cadiz, N340.

Before you set off check you are familiar with all the controls of your rent a car as this is your opportunity to ask the representative any questions.

    4. Taxis at Malaga Airport

If you are planning on getting a taxi to your holiday destination you will find the rank to the right directly outside the arrivals hall. By law standard Malaga Airport taxis can only carry up to a maximum of 4 passengers (including children), and they do not provide baby or child booster seats.  If you are travelling in a large party, are carrying a large amount of luggage or if you require special child seating then it is a lot easier if you pre-book a private transfer.

It costs about EUR12 for a taxi into Malaga City centre, EUR16 to Torremolinos, EUR15 to Benalmadena Costa, EUR35 to Fuengirola, EUR35 to Mijas, EUR70 to Marbella, EUR75 to Puerto Banus, EUR80 to San Pedro and EUR90 to Estepona. These fares will vary depending on the time and day you are travelling as late at night or on Sundays and bank holidays will be more expensive.

    5. Buses at Malaga Airport

You can find the bus stop by turning right as you exit arrivals and walk for approximately 20 metres.

There are two main services: the C19 to Malaga City Centre and the main bus station and Maria Zambrano Railway Station. It runs every 20-40 minutes depending on the time of day and costs EUR1.10 single fare (pay the driver). The first bus leaves at 07.00 and the last at 24.00.

The second service is the non stop coach direct to Marbella bus station, where you can get connections to San Pedro, Estepona and Puerto Banus. Journey time is 45 minutes and it costs EUR4.30 (pay the driver) with buses leaving at hourly or two hourly intervals depending on the time of year.

    6. Trains at Malaga Airport

There is a train service from Malaga Airport which goes to Malaga City in one direction and Fuengirola in the other.

The platform is on the opposite side of the road from the airport terminal first floor level (departures). You turn right out of the departures hall, walk past the new terminal 1 extension until you come to a sign sending you over zebra crossing into the car park area. Look to the left in the car park and follow the signs until you get to an elevated metal bridge which crosses the motorway below and eventually leads to the station.

It is about a six minute walk which is all on one level until you get to the station platform when you need to climb a dozen or so fairly steep concrete steps to get to it. So anyone with walking difficulties will have a problem. You can purchase your tickets from a machine at the base of these steps.

Trains run to Malaga City Centre every 30 minutes from 06:49 to 23:49. The single fare is between EUR1.20 and EUR1.30 depending on the day of travel.  Journey time about 10 minutes.

Trains from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola every 30 minutes from 05:24 to 22:34. to 23:17 The fares for this journey range from EUR1.85 to EUR2.00. Total journey time around 35 minutes.

    7. Parking at Malaga Airport

There are currently over 2,000 parking spaces at Malaga Airport split into three different areas: P1, P2 and the General Aviation, P1 is the largest with 1,533 spaces, P2 has 968 spaces and General Aviation has just 47.

Parking for hire cars is located on floor 1 of P2 and floors 1 and 2 of P1. You pay for your parking at the machine with either credit card or cash before you get to your car when leaving the airport

The tariffs for the parking at all Malaga Airport car parks are first 30 minutes or less EUR0.63: second half hour or less EUR1.00: all or part of each additional hour EUR1.64: daily maximum up to 4 days, EUR18.00: daily maximum from the fifth day EUR14.40.

    8. Checking in and Departing from Malaga Airport

There are three departures halls at Malaga Airport. The main one is on the first floor of Terminal 2 (above the arrivals hall) and handles most of the flights.

There is also a check in hall on the ground floor of Terminal 1 and on the first floor which can be accessed from Terminal 1 and also via a slope in the left hand corner of Terminal 2.

    9. Shops, Bars & Cafes at Malaga Airport

Malaga Airport Shops provide a good opportunity to stock up on last minute presents and duty-free goods. Goods sold range from sporting gear through to fashion, jewellery, music, toys, electronics, home decoration, confectionery, local foods, as well as five Aldeasa Stores selling the usual duty-free make-up, perfumes, cigarettes and alcohol. The main shopping area is in Terminal 2 past security on the second floor, although there are a few duty free shops and newsagents leading to the departure gates.

There is a pharmacy in the public area on the first floor of Terminal 1, which you can get to from Terminal 2 via an adjoining tunnel. It is open from 09:00 to 21:00. There is also a post office (Monday to Friday 08:30-14:30 & Saturday 09:30-13:00) and lost luggage office located here.

Opening times for the shops are generally 08:00 to 20:00 although this may vary for individual boutiques.

There are several restaurants at Malaga Airport with a couple of cafes before security in the Terminal 2 building and a restaurant serving meals in the adjoining walkway to Terminal 1. Inside the entrance hall of Terminal 1 there is another cafe serving sandwiches and drinks.

Once through security there is an upstairs area on the second floor of Terminal 2 where you will find the majority of shops and a large self service cafeteria serving hot and cold food, a small cafe and a Haagen Daz kiosk. There are also a few cafes serving cold snacks and drinks by the departure gates.

If you are meeting someone in the public arrivals hall then the Bar del Golf on the left hand side of the entrance doors from the luggage hall is a good place to wait.

10 Tips For Choosing a Good Website Design Sunday, September 19, 2010

Website design is arguably the most important aspect of a website. Whilst functionality and content are extremely important, it's design that draws people in and makes them use the site.

Here's what you need to know if you are thinking about redesigning your website:

    1. Your website design needs to be clear and easy to use. Your visitors need to be able to see immediately what the site is about.

    2. You'll want to make sure that the website layout you choose is concise. You don't want to make your visitors hung high and low for the navigation or for your all important content, or products.

    3. The colours and design you used to be easy to read. You might want something stylish and artistic, but this shouldn't detract from your visitors' user experience. People still expect to have navigation in the same place on each and every page.

    4. You'll want to make sure that your navigation and links are easy to follow so that your visitors can easily find their way round. Make sure that your design is consistent. Don't have some images as link, and not others; don't use underlined text for some links and not others, as it will be very confusing.

    5. Make sure that your website is engaging and encourages visitors to explore your website and read your content. There's no point have highly relevant content, or excellent products that are hard to reach.

    6. It sounds obvious, but make sure it's apparent what the site is about. If you've got an ecommerce site then you'll want to make sure that visitors know that it's a shop can find the products they want to be quickly and easily.

    7. Make it clear what you want your visitors to do next, with plenty of calls to action. You want your visitors to add products to the shopping basket, or want people to contact your about your services, or download your software.

    8. You might want to take advantage of Facebook or Twitter or any of the other social networking sites. How could your website design, contents or products take advantage of the many users on these sorts of sites?

    9. Your products or services might be better explained using videos. How can you incorporate them into your website design?

    10. You'll want to make sure that your website is worth coming back to. It's important that you keep the look and feel of the site as well as the content fresh, so make sure that your website design allows for this.

Now that you know more about website design, and what to look out for, perhaps now is the time to think about changing your website design.

FA Cup Third Round Betting Review Saturday, September 11, 2010

There were not many surprises in the FA Cup third round, but the shock results in the minority were certainly spectacular ones.

Manchester United remain 9/2 second favourites despite whimpering to a goalless draw against non league Burton Albion. This was the second time in as many seasons the Reds have been held by Conference opposition, although it will mean a lucrative payday for Nigel Clough's side when the two sides replay at Old Trafford.

Middlesbrough were also held to a draw by Conference North side Nuneaton Borough. Former Leicester City apprentice Gez Murphy scored a 90 minute penalty to level matters after Gaizka Mendieta gave Boro the lead after 15 minutes.

Fulham became the first Premiership side to be dumped out of the Cup, going down 2-1 at home to League Two side Leyton Orient on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday proved to be a bad day for Premiership sides with Tottenham Hotspur the next victims. The perennial FA Cup underachievers surrendered a two goal lead at Leicester's Walkers Stadium with the Foxes winning an entertaining match 3-2. Despite the stunning victory, Championship outfit Leicester remain 200/1 underdogs to win the Cup.

Elsewhere it was business as usual for the Premiership sides. Chelsea, favourites at 11/4 needed an 81 minute winner to see off plucky Huddersfield while 11/2 third favourites Arsenal had a late scare against battling Cardiff but clung on for a 2-1 victory.

Liverpool (13/2) were involved in a remarkable match with Luton Town, in which they found themselves 3-1 down after the break, although three goals in 12 minutes restored the Reds lead to 4-3, with Xabi Alonso scoring from inside his own half at the death for Liverpool's fifth, a goal which earned one lucky punter over £25,000 after placing a bet on him achieving such a feat.

Blackburn despatched QPR by a convincing 3-0 as did Bolton away at Watford, while struggling Sunderland managed the same against non league Northwich Victoria.

A host of ties could only muster a single goal in the Premiership sides favour, with 25/1 Newcastle edging past Mansfield, Gareth Barry's goal being enough for Aston Villa (33/1) to see off Hull and 100/1 outsiders Portsmouth to win at Ipswich.

The third round isn't over for Everton who drew 1-1 at Millwall, a scoreline repeated by West Brom against Reading and Wigan Athletic against Leeds. Birmingham City could only muster a goalless draw at League Two side Torquay United.
